This one is easy! Surrounded as we are by the culture of the USA it was tough to pick what we might want to do.

Breakfast
We made Annabel Karmel’s mini muffins together the day before.
This was a great way to start getting excited about the adventure and to try not to only eat terrible food on the American leg of the journey! You could go full out with pancakes and bacon though – I sort of wish we had.
We watched
There were so many movies to choose from but we decided to watch Pocahontas. We snacked on Reeces Pieces and apples (see my attempt to add nutrition?).
Lunch
Hot dogs and cheeseburger crisps on a Disneyland plate. I do love a theme!

The Adventure
We went to our local bowling alley in Southport! It’s next to the Vue Cinema which would also be a great option in the USA. We listened to Taylor Swift and Katy Perry all the way there and booked a family lane for one game. It was really good fun and the raised sides (for the kids (!)) helped me to achieve a personal best.
The big Kiwi still won though!

Other ideas
The cinema would be awesome with lots of popcorn, or going to a mall (Build a Bear anyone?).
Taking a lift up to the highest building in your city strikes me as a pretty America thing to do, or going out for milkshakes.
If you really wanted to create the America of my childhood dreams you could organise a little prom with corsages and a prom queen (bagsy me.)

Supper
Oh shush! Of course we did! Cheap plastic food, cheap plastic toys and balloons and a big mac with bacon (say that again louder). We all had an amazing time. The MacDonald’s we went to is on the same estate as the bowling alley and has that American, new flat-packed kind of a feel. Next to it was a Pizza Hut and a KFC so lots of choice!

We wore
Mickey Mouse T Shirts and lots of red white and blue.
Caps and Disney World T Shirts and a cheap Primark T Shirt with a bland American logo.
This would be a fun one to go cheap clothes shopping for if you felt like it.
I even bought the kids Mickey Mouse plates from the pound shop as a souvenir of our journey on the way home.

And Finally…
A night in with rubbish booze and Back to the Future for us.
Other good bets would be any Molly Ringwald film or Ferris Buellers day off. Clueless and Mean-girls also great choices.
