I’ll readily admit that I was expecting this one to be a bit disappointing, if you consider that we actually live in the UK! But in the event we had a simply brilliant time with fish and chips and beach huts and kite flying.
The key was to do something different and adventurous and so we booked this amazing little beach hut in St Anne’s to spend the day in and I really truly think you should too!
Breakfast
We feasted on crumpets and tea. We watched Peppa Pig and we packed out car ready for our adventure. Things to remember next time: at least five changes of clothes for the small people….
Another option would have been going for an English Breakfast on the way which I would definitely consider next time. As it was, we went to buy our picnic and then the adventure began.
The Adventure
Our beach hut was glorious and we had had the brilliant foresight to bring our kite, so after lunch (that the famous five would have been proud of), we went to the beach for kite flying (all of us) and sand rolling (Freddie). It was literally the perfect Kite flying weather and the Kiwi got some good exercise (as did half of St Anne’s) chasing the kite when Freddie let it go. Sadly Mary Poppins did not appear on the tail of it.
Freddie and Penny had a brilliant time on the beach and when we got cold we went back to our beach hut for tea, hot chocolate and tunnocks tea cakes.
I’d never been to St Anne’s before but its really lovely and has a little village area which we explored. We bought some colouring-in books and had a look around.
There is a Pier at St Anne’s with old fashioned arcade games – like the 2p machines which drop coins down. Freddie was in heaven – cars to ‘drive’ slot machines to eat and twinkly lights. I was lovely and it was really cheap.
You might notice that Penny is in a onsie. All other clothes options had been destroyed at this point and were hanging round the heater in the beach-hut! A proper UK holiday!
Thinking about it now it might have been fun to make our own kites and if it hadn’t been freezing and February I definitely would have bought a bucket and spade. I noticed an ice-cream shop too and so a trip back in warmer weather is definitely on the to do list.
Supper
We had fish and chips from the chip shop on the Pier and watched the sunset from the window of our lovely warm beach-hut.
The sunset was incredibly beautiful and because its winter it was nice and early. We didn’t really want to drink because we were driving but I had Bucks Fizz and Mark had no alcohol beer and we toasted a lovely day.
Eventually we packed everything into the car, said a sad goodbye to beach-hut 21 and drove home. The kids fell asleep in the car (fresh air is magical) and so we carried them into bed and had some stronger alcohol (and the rest of the tea cakes) to celebrate.
So, the day I thought would be my least favourite turned out to be really awesome and reminded me at quite an important time how brilliant the UK really is. Our next UK themed day was to be in London.
