When we were offered the chance to do a Pirate Treasure Hunt through our hometown of Liverpool we jumped at the chance. And seeing as we were pretending to be pirates we thought it would be great day to pretend to visit the Caribbean.

Breakfast
Luckily for us there is a restaurant in Liverpool which is all about the Caribbean called Turtle bay! www.turtlebay.co.uk

Its a great place to eat with amazing decor and an awesome kids menu – including a kids pack which is actually good! Liverpool is so great for international restaurants and I’ve reviewed my favourite kid friendly ones here.
The kids pack taught Penny lots about the Caribbean and prompted me to talk about my visit there with my sister many moons ago.

The food for the kids was out of their normal comfort zone but they both really enjoyed it and my bacon wrap was delicious. Everyone was very friendly and we left in a brilliant mood to start out treasure hunt.
Being Pirates

The treasure hunt is a game which you use your phone for, which guides you all around Liverpool via a series of clues. You can find out all about it here: https://treasurehuntliverpool.com

It worked brilliantly and, to be honest, Liverpool city centre is relatively small and so perfect for this kind of a game. Penny was very involved, counting steps, looking for golden gates and working out clues. We stopped at a couple of awesome pubs for grog (and lemonade) and even found a Mr Whippy van outside one of the Cathedrals.

Liverpool is a city packed with history and the clues took us to some of the most beautiful and interesting places. We looked for blue plaques, Latin phrases and clocks frozen in time. Penny asked lots of questions and, I think, learned a lot.

I was worried Freddie would be bored but there were loads of places for him to explore and of course he loved seeing the boats on the River Mersey. The weather was brilliant – not too hot or cold and although we had weary feet by the end of the game, I would recommend it to anyone.
Hair beads
When we got home we were very very tired and so we scrapped the plan to go to the beach and instead we listened to Bob Marley and braided Penny’s dolly’s hair. Knowing we were going to a Caribbean, I had bought some pretty hair beads from Amazon as I remembered my sister and I getting some braids in Barbados.
It was an absolutely awesome day – but, to be fair, I think the Caribbean needs more exploring on another day as (having been I well know that) there is so much more to it than pirates, watermelon and plaits.
