Disney World

To cheer ourselves up in lockdown, having had to cancel our trip to Disney World, we decided to recreate our favourite moments from the last trip we took as a family and to cheer up my quarantined parents too. Now we actually did these three events over three separate weekends – you could do them all in one day but you would be pretty full up!

Character Breakfast

We decided to surprise my parents in lockdown with a Disney Character Breakfast. We didn’t buy anything new to wear – we just raided the dressing up box at home and used some imagination. Of course the great thing about Disney is how diverse you can be with your outfit and with Marvel and Pixar as well the sky is the limit. We tried to pick well known and quite old fashioned characters that my parents would immediately recognise. Freddie simply will not dress up but I thought he looked super cute in his Peter Pan shirt.

We bought breakfast over with us – my parents had to stay in the conservatory because it was lockdown in the U.K. when we did it. We served them pancakes, maple syrup and crispy American style bacon. It was delicious and has always been my mums favourite American breakfast. It bought back lots of memories of a character breakfast when I was a little girl too.

Oh course we were all in character for the breakfast and so Gaston went around being very strong and annoying, Peter Pan flew, Minnie Mouse organised…. and I got to sleep which was a genius idea!! My parents loved it – they had really missed going out for lunch and seeing their friends and so it was nice to make a memory.

Hoop Dee Doo

One of our favourite ever things to do in Disney World is the Hoop Dee Doo Revue. We love this American West themed dinner show and the lush American food on offer. We found a video of the show on YouTube and played it on the TV while we ate all of our favourite food. Penny dressed as a waitress and Mark did all the cooking so it was a big treat for me.

The only bit of the feast we couldn’t replicate was corn bread. If I had given it more time I could have ordered corn bread mix from Amazon. We definitely had enough food though – with fried chicken and mash and ribs and beans. I was thinking that now more places are open you could pick up a chicken bucket from KFC and everybody could have a big treat!

Dessert was delicious!

Mark used this recipe to recreate the famous dessert at the Hoop Dee Doo. It was delicious but we got a bit confused with the measurements and made enough for about a hundred guests! I think a strawberry sauce would have improved it too. But it’s the best pudding I’ve had for a long time.

Firework Dessert Party

Our final adventure was to recreate the Disney Dessert Party in the magic kingdom in Florida where you get a view of the fireworks and are served gorgeous puddings. We bought a selection of deserts from Iceland and found a great version of the fireworks on YouTube. The kids were so excited and Penny had all kinds of memories which came flooding back.

This was the simplest, but also my favourite, of our Disney World adventures. After we had finished we took dessert to my parents too and Penny danced around their garden dressed as Tinkerbell! These memories are as precious as those in the parks themselves ❤️

Not being able to travel doesn't mean you can't still have fun. We did a Disney world themed day at home!
