Well… it’s been a very very long time since I’ve written here because we have been doing the right thing and staying at home. We are extremely lucky indeed because our home is right next to Formby Beach.

I don’t think we have ever appreciated where we live as much as we do now and with red squirrels, pine forests and endless sand dunes, it’s not a place you can ever get bored of exploring. In fact it’s been a major part of lots of our pretend travels including Canada, Brazil and Peru!

Formby is beautiful and dramatic but it’s also not your average beach and so here are my top five top tips for having the perfect day out here.

Top Tips
- Come when it’s not really good weather! Formby gets super busy on sunny days so come on an average weather day and you will get the place to yourself
- Expect to walk! The beach is not close to – well anywhere – and is a 15 minute walk from the car parks so don’t come loaded with stuff.

- Bring everything you need. The beach has no shops or cafes at all (there is sometimes a coffee bar or an ice cream van) but generally you need to bring everything with you (and please take your litter home).
- Don’t be sad if you don’t see a red squirrel. Honestly they are wonderful but also very shy and they have been hit hard by squirrel pox lately. You are probably more likely to see them in someone’s garden.
- If you can, get the train. There is very limited parking and sometimes hour long queues but also be aware if you do get the train it’s quite a walk to the beach. At least you can try to spot famous footballers houses along the way! If you are driving in on a sunny day then try to arrive before 11 or you could get caught in a queue.

And that’s it! So as lockdown eases I hope you come and enjoy our beautiful golden beach. Or if you fancy something a little different you could pop down the road to Crosby where they have the most incredible Antony Gormley statues.

What a stunning beach to have on your doorstep, I am so much more appreciative of our local area now but we are missing the beach right now. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS. Hope you come back again next time
So jealous that you have a beach close to you! we live in the East midlands and we are so far from the coast. I am desperately craving some sea air but going to hold on for a few months yet- I think everywhere is going to be so busy when restrictions first relax- I’m happy to wait.

looks awesome. One of the things I love about where we are is all the nature that is within walking distance of my back door. A beach sure would be great though! #KCACOLS
What a beautiful place to live close to! I especially love the photo of sledging down the sand dune. I quite like the sound of the fact there are no coffee shops and its 15 mins away from a car park!!! #KCACOLS
Every time I see your beach pics I always think how stunning it is. Great tip to go when it’s not great weather though. Ours are the same here. Thanks so much for linking up at #KCACOLS.
Looks like a lovely beach! I lived in Crosby very briefly and the Antony Gormley statues scared the crap out of me, haha!! #KCACOLS
You are so lucky to have a great beach on your doorstep! Hopefully the weather will start to improve again now and you can spend even more time in the sea. Just a shame it will be just as lockdown ends and we all go back to reality really.
